Can you give me some pointers for using gpg/pgp and other encryption?

First off lets take a gander at some informational sites:

http://www.kuro5hin.org/?op=displaystory&sid=2000/4/10/174741/423
http://www.faqs.org/faqs/cryptography-faq/

Then if you are interested in this PKI machine a good start with gnupg: http://webber.dewinter.com/gnupg_howto/english/GPGMiniHowto-3.html#ss3.1

I suggest you read the entire document and not just that paper.

A nice list of front ends can be found here:
http://www.gnupg.org/(en)/related_software/frontends.html

Also if you use gnome I reccomend seahorse as a front end.
